It started the same way all of your bad decisions do: an unhealthy combination of boredom and a tavern of questionable repute. As you struggle to scale the outer walls of Windkeep castle, you're forced to admit that you really outdid yourself this time. Just because someone mentioned that the castle was impenetrable and that its occupants happened to be the owners of an heirloom-quality brooch (your favourite), does not mean you had to go steal it

In your defence, you took to stealing to make a living and having now stolen enough to live comfortably, what is left but to steal for fame? One wouldn't want to get rusty, never know when the money might run out. As you finally jump over the wall, Nyx, the Goddess of the night and protector of thieves, smiles - she does like to watch you work.

The Game

Inspired by  Megan Whalen Turner's novel The ThiefThief is a solo TTRPG which can be played with or without a journaling component. The game uses a standard deck of cards to generate story prompts and two six-sided dice to resolve encounters. Both the encounter resolution and oracle system use Cezar Capacle’s Push SRD, which provides a streamlined and narrative-focussed gaming experience. The exploration mechanic is based on the journaling game Colostle, developed by Nich Angell.

Choose from one of three pre-generated thief archetypes (or create your own) before setting out.  As your thief explores the castle “borrowing” items, their actions will cause them to advance both the progress track (bringing them closer to the brooch) and the noise track (which may require them to leave before reaching their objective if they aren't careful). This mechanic ensures that the story arc keeps developing while maintaining some level of unpredictability around the final act.

Hi Stephenie, just wondering if you have an expanded preview of what's contained within your game.

Perhaps a view of the index page would also help to see what it offers/how many tables are inside, as I don't have a clear enough idea currently.

Do you have plans to upload to any other sites as well?

P.S. I am a big fan of the steampunk universe created by Looking Glass Studios with their main protagonist - Garrett. Would you say your project was inspired by this at all or centers on similar themes?

Thankyou.

Greeting!

Thanks for your interest! I have added the table of content to the game's description, thank you for the excellent suggestion. For greater clarity, Thief comes with the following tables:

  1. Thief approaches (3 types)
  2. Exploration table (52 prompts)
  3. 3 tables to add dimensions to above prompts (item condition table, smell table, character demeanour table)
  4. D66 Table containing potential loot
  5. 2 tables of prompts relating the Thief's escape

I did upload another one of my project to DriveThru RPG (Druid) but I'll be honest their back end is... not user friendly. So while it's likely that Thief will eventually be posted there, I will have to be in a special kind of mood to make it happen.

Finally, I cannot pronounce myself regarding Garrett as I am not familiar with the universe. I did take a quick look and I can confirm that my setting is much more generic fantasy than steampunk.

Have a great day!

Thanks for that and I appreciate you unveiling a bit more of your work. :)

Looking forward to exploring your world soon.
